Nikon Z 105mm in the Zoo
Yesterday, I took a walk in the zoological garden of Augsburg using the Nikkor Z 105mm MC mostly. It is a bit of a risk because some images might require a longer range. But I have only 200mm, and often the 105mm can be cropped enough. Wider images are impossible, of course. The immense quality of this lens proved to be worth it.
The double snake image above was taken through the window pane, of course. You need to get close enough to avoid reflections. The shallow depth of f/2.8 helps too. I had to use f/4 to get enough depth of field in the image above, however.
The pelicans came very close and were somewhat crowded. But a close-up image with the 105mm does als work. These birds are so beautiful.
Birds in flight are not possible with the 105mm. For this, you need a 400mm f/4 or similar. Otherwise, images of single birds are not good enough, I think.
This is somewhat more macro style. Depth of field becomes shallow. Also, light was quite harsh and I had some work editing the image. Below is another example.
Finally, the same guy from another perspective. This is heavily cropped, probably to a 250mm equivalent lens. But I liked the action of the chameleon. The move very slowly.
